The country singer was scheduled to sing in Reno, Nevada on Saturday night (February 12) when she found out that Houston had died. She then took to the stage and sang Houston’s “I will always love You” (the Dolly Parton tune which Houston made iconic in the film the Bodyguard), with audience members noting that Rimes was tearful during the song.

Before performing, Rimes Tweeted her condolences about Houston’s death: “I can’t stop crying. I have a show to do soon. Wow, I learned how to do what I do because of 3 great women, one being Whitney. She was always so kind to me. this is not gonna be an easy show for sure. I’m doing what she taught me to do by listening to her records over & over as a little girl. Her death is very surreal.”

Houston was found dead in the bathtub of her hotel room in Los Angeles on Saturday. She was 48. She was commemorated at Sunday night’s Grammy awards ceremony by Jennifer Hudson, who also sang “I will always love You.”

The opposite is true from where I live.

From where I live, Justin Bieber fans are dwindling in numbers. Of course, there’s still the obsessed fans who still go crazy about his “talent” and his “personality” (despite having never seen Bieber in real life and off-cameras) and those who put “Bieber” as last names in their FB profiles.

I don’t think it’s because of Rebecca Black (if people hate her, then why would they suddenly like someone that she likes?) I think you just have the misfortune of being around too many Bieber fans.

[Final note: To date, Bieber has won 26 awards. Three-fourths of which were based from surveys and text votes (instead of critics/judges) and 2 of which were for "Least Stylish" and "Worst Album".]

Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival, will be coming to Las Vegas this June, the Cosmopolitan announced today. The internationally recognized festival will be held at the hotel’s Boulevard Pool from June 1-3 to celebrate Tropfest’s 20th anniversary.

In addition to indie music acts and film-themed anniversary events, the festival will feature a Tropfest “All-Star” competition showcasing the best films from the event of the past two decades. A panel of industry and celebrity judges will choose an overall winner from 12 finalists.

“Tropfest filmmakers have created some groundbreaking short films over the years, and I’m thrilled the U.S. audience can experience them first-hand with our All-Star competition,” Tropfest founder and Director John Polson said in a news release.

The weekend’s festivities will be filmed by Starz Cinema, Tropfest’s national broadcast partner, and screened across the country at a later date.

Over the past two decades, Tropfest has built a name for itself as a platform for emerging actors, directors, writers and other film industry professionals and is supported by some of the industry’s biggest names, including Nicole Kidman, Baz Luhrmann and Russell Crowe. Tropfest alumni include actor Sam Worthington and the actor-director duo Jason Gann and Tony Rogers, whose Tropfest short “Wilfred” is now a popular TV series in the U.S. and Australia.

Tropfest Las Vegas is the newest iteration of the festival; others are currently held in Australia, Abu Dhabi, New York, Paris, China and Malaysia.

All events for the Las Vegas festival are non-ticketed and open and free to the public, although packages and $200 VIP tickets can be purchased beginning Friday via the Cosmopolitan’s website.

My computer just crashed and the last thing it did before that was to message me that there was a script error in file something-something-Etc-”notepad”-something-”charlie_sheen” etc-etc…. I had just finished saving a file to notepad. The mssg also told me I needed to run chkdsk. I restarted the computer and it did it by itself and when finished it said that an empty sector was showing as allocated etc. When all was said and done Microsoft Security Essentials had stopped loading and so had the software for my external USB antenna. Also Microsoft reported that my computer has no virus protection installed. I tried to reinstall the wifi but got nowhere, I tried to use “Restore” but all the restore points are GONE! This has to be some kind of virus that beats Security Essentials. I JUST reformatted the hard drive, am I doomed to doing it AGAIN?!?

Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith are not exceptions. there are plenty of celebrity stories for the media and the paparazzi to exploit for faux news. they can choose stories involving the personal issues of Lindsey Lohan, Nicole Richie, and Britney Spears or the new legal issues of O.J. Simpson. there seems to be an endless supply of celebrity news for the media to report.

The media creates and distributes celebrity faux news because it can be packaged to appear to be sensational. It involves a celebrity that we know and therefore it appears to touch us in a personal way. for the television media it means ratings at a bargain basement price. The panel discussions, the speculation, and the experts are cheap. The same issue can appear on a cable channel all day or all week.

What does the American public think of all this celebrity faux news? The Pew Research Center for People and the Press completed a new national survey in July 2007. Here are its findings: an overwhelming majority of the public (87%) says celebrity scandals receive too much news coverage. This criticism generally holds across most major demographic and political groups. Virtually no one thinks there is too little coverage of celebrity scandals.

Who is to blame for the excess celebrity coverage? The Pew Survey states that a majority of the public point to the media. Fully 54% of those who say celebrity news is over-covered also believe news organizations are to blame for giving these stories so much coverage. Roughly a third (32%) say the public is to blame for paying so much attention to them, and another 12% say the media and the public are both equally to blame. in summary, the survey finds that 87% of Americans feel that celebrities scandals are over covered by the media. Nobody believes that there is too little celebrity coverage, and 66% believe that the media is in some way to blame for the excess coverage. It is interesting to note that a majority of young people under thirty blamed the public for excess celebrity coverage. People over thirty years of age overwhelmingly blamed the media.

This media obsession with the faux news of the sometimes troubled personal lives of celebrities is taking media attention and focus away from important national and international news stories and events in 2007. It is contributing to the dumbing down of American society. indeed, it is very disturbing that we have heard little from the American media about the heroic story of Aung San Suu Kyi, even with the recent worldwide attention given to the sad events in Burma (Myanmar). however, we have heard far too much about the personal problems and issues of our celebrities. It is the substantive news that we could know, and don’t, that should concern us. This media age of celebrity faux news comes at the expense of real news, and poses a danger to a free and literate society.

It’s just a crush. It’s not wrong, its perfectly normal for teenagers to get crushes on their teachers (especially young ones). Ignore it and it will pass. Don’t attempt to try anything with him, you could both get into a lot of trouble

She’s a strange kind of celebrity, in that if she does not do anything interesting then the press will lose interest in her. That’s why pretty much everything she does is for publicity, like her latest marriage, it ended after a few weeks. It was only done for attention, now she gets loads of press. I think that her sex tape was a publicity stunt. To be honest there is nothing great about her and i don’t know why people give a shit, her dad was famous, not her. I think she ( the wife*) is losing it. Let me explain, no wait, there is too much, let me sum up:

It started a few weeks ago, our next door neighbor, ( who we will call “Nicki” ) sits for our two boys from time to time. Although she is a college freshman at the local community college, she is usually home during the weekends as part of her probation. So, it works out well for us.

This last time, I offered her a ride home. It was late, very dark, and raining. Even though she lives only about a mile down the road, I felt it was best to drive her. She refused, saying that she really did not mind getting wet and gave me a little wink. I told her I would not hear of it, and told her to get into the car.
When arriving at her house, she told me her parents where on Martha’s Vineyard ( Cape Cod for non-New Englanders) preparing their condo for rental season, and she was alone. After walking her to the door, she said that it was unlocked. She had sworn that she had locked it before she left, and asked me to do a walk through.

Well, I grabbed my .22 from under my seat and did a complete sweep of the house. Nothing was disturbed. Except me that is. While searching her bedroom, I discovered my missing pair of Scooby-Doo boxer shorts, a hair brush, pictures of me from my beach vacation, and my older Drew Bledsoe Patriot jersey that I has sworn I threw in the trash. Needless to say I felt very uncomfortable.
As I was leaving, she “Nicki” gave me a big hug and kiss and thanked me for checking things out.

When I arrived home 45 minutes later, my wife was already at the door. She was not happy. I had not noticed the lipstick kiss mark on my cheek, plus ” Nicki” had already called to “Thank” her again for me checking out her bedroom with my gun.

A night of expected “night out passion” turned into a sleepless night on the couch alone for me. How could something so simple turn into some huge event?

So now in retaliation, my wife* is starting to come up with these little comments like: “Look at those muscles on the bag-boy”, ” Or our friend ‘SC’ is really handsome and sexy”….” Or maybe we should pick up that hitch-hiker, he looks like Ashton Kutcher” blah..blah..blah

And to top it off, she applied for some men’s locker room attendant job at the local community college. Like she needs the money or has any extra time.

So, how do I convince her that this girl just has some silly little crush, and nothing more. Should I rent the movie ” The Crush” with Alicia Silverstone and watch it with her?

She obviosuly has like a coral gold eyeshadow or cream shadow on her eyelids. Then her eyes are lined in thin kohl all around, and maybe a few individual lashes on the outer corners of her eyes

It’s called Flambe, you add alcohol to a hot pan to create a burst of flames. I’ve tried to do it before and found that it’s easier to do with a gas stove. But remember, Simply lighting food on fire is not flambéing in and of itself. If you want to learn how to do it, I’d look it up and see if you can get some tips.
